WATER SECTOR RECEIVES A HUGE BOOST

Water sector has received a huge boost throughTanzania – Belgium Partnershipwhich expects to inaugurate water projects at MbagalaKuu, in Temeke District, in Dar es Salaam tomorrow.

The project is among many projects which are designed of feasible pilot sanitation facilities and determination of feasible sanitation services which covers 14 wards of Dar es Salaam. It forms part of a large-scale water and sanitation project in Dar es Salaam which is receiving support from Belgian Technical Cooperation (BTC), the Government of Tanzania and the European Union.

“We really have a very good relations with BTC and appreciate what they have done in improving this sector, all we ask from you is to make sure the water projects in Dar es Salaam are upgraded to a very good standard”, said the Minister of Water, Prof. JumanneMaghembe today.

“We also would like to make sure the concentration to be put in rural areas in order to improve water supply levels to 75% and Kigoma in particular which is facing a huge water  problem”, added Prof. Maghembe.

The Minister also urged BTC to keep an eye on implementation of large water projects in the country like Lake Victoria Project which aims at bringing water from Lake Victoria to Shinyanga region.

The Minister of Water, Prof. JumanneMaghembe was talking to a Belgium Delegation which visited him at the Ministry of Water today which included Belgium Ambassador in Tanzania, Koen Adam.

Tanzania is a partner country of the Belgian bilateral cooperation since 1982. Belgium contributes fully to the Tanzanian National Strategy for Growth and Reduction of Poverty and the attainment of the Millennium Development Goals.
